![]() Nests & Eggs of Southern African Birds The book is in fieldguide format with 175 pages of species text facing an equal number of pages of photographs of the birds and their nests. It gives the most recent information available on 730 bird species known to breed south of the Zambezi and Kunene rivers. The diversity to be found in their nesting habits is astonishing - the world's largest bird (Ostrich) breeds here, as does the bird (Sociable Weaver) that builds the largest nest in the world. The region is home to no less than 18 species of herons, more than 50 birds of prey, 12 owls, a host of waterbirds, 10 species of hornbills, nearly a third of the world's larks (31 species) and a bewildering variety of weavers, bishops, widowbirds and smaller finches. The breeding habits of each of these is covered in the book. The book is available from most leading book stores or from the author. www.warwicktarboton.co.za 0147152680 PO Box 1575 Kokanje South Africa, Limpopo 0515 South Africa Other Categories: Home & Hobbies » Hobbies » Birding |
